soft hands

Someone took my hand once,
he kissed it, and held it
close to his chest, I counted
every breath--the rise and fall,
the rise and fall,
my hands were soft then,
small, dainty and cold,
a crisp, quiet winter evening
caught between his palms,
and I could not let go since.
