Contrast

He read her like a textbook.
She read him like poetry.

He liked to be challenged.
She loved the mystery.

He defined important keywords.
She inferred between the lines.

He only looked in the chapters he needed.
She pondered every word and rhyme.

Sometimes, he wrote notes on her margins.
Sometimes, she drew on his blank pages.

He thought he understood.
She thought she understood.

She heard him like a love song.
He heard her like a speech.

She put music into his words.
He evaluated her logic in each.

She had him on repeat.
He had her transcribed.

She refused to let his song end.
He hated when she wasted time.

Sometimes, she misheard his lyrics.
Sometimes, he stopped listening at all.

She thought she understood.
He thought he understood.

They parted ways:
One who had had enough, and
The other who wished for more.
