He read her
like a textbook.
She read him
like poetry.
He liked to
be challenged.
She loved
the mystery.
He defined
important keywords.
She inferred
between the lines.
He only
looked in the chapters he needed.
She pondered
every word and rhyme.
Sometimes, he
wrote notes on her margins.
Sometimes, she
drew on his blank pages.
He thought
he understood.
She thought
she understood.
She heard
him like a love song.
He heard her
like a speech.
She put music
into his words.
He evaluated
her logic in each.
She had him
on repeat.
He had her
transcribed.
She refused
to let his song end.
He hated
when she wasted time.
Sometimes, she
misheard his lyrics.
Sometimes, he
stopped listening at all.
She thought she
understood.
He thought he
understood.
They parted
ways:
One who had had enough, and
The other
who wished for more.
